Auction and Bake Sale Update!
Lovely blog readers please tune in.
Starting Tuesday, April 21 I am hosting an auction and bake sale to raise funds in support of my dear friend Beth’s Jimmy Fund Walk in the Boston Marathon!
Since its founding in 1948, the Jimmy Fund has supported the fight against cancer in children and adults at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, helping to raise the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world.
The mission of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is to provide expert, compassionate care to children and adults with cancer while advancing the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, cure, and prevention of cancer and related diseases. As an affiliate of Harvard Medical School and a Comprehensive Cancer Center designated by the National Cancer Institute, the Institute also provides training for new generations of physicians and scientists, designs programs that promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations, and disseminates innovative patient therapies and scientific discoveries to our target community across the United States and throughout the world.
My personal story and reason for helping…
I lost my mom to non-Hodkins Lymphoma in 2001. My life was completely wrecked for quite a while b/c I had an outstanding mom. Truly. She had to have been one of the best out there. Anyone that knew her would likely agree with me. I hate that life continues on without her. But it does. And I have to continue on with this life’s journey, such as it is. But that doesn’t mean I have to journey in silence and feel like I can do nothing to fight this.
And neither does my uncle, who’s been undergoing radiation treatments for colon cancer.
And neither does my father-in-law, who had thryoid cancer, and is in healthy remission right now.
And neither does my mother-in-law, who lost her only brother to pancreatic cancer.
And neither does my friend Kate, whose mother is battling a very rough form of cancer.
And neither does my dear friend Beth. Beth lost her fiance to cancer in 2007. Beth is one of those angels on earth. Strong, patient, lovely.
And neither do you, any of you, who have been touched by cancer personally or through those you love.
So here’s what you can DO! Take part in our Auction/Bake Sale to raise money to fight ALL cancers.
~Auction/Bake Sale Logistics & Rules~
On the morning of Tuesday, April 21, I will post pictures and a brief description of all auction items and baked goods up for sale.
To place an official bid, you then e-mail me at esavearth [at] gmail [dot] com with a bid of what you would like to purchase. Please be very specific about which item you are bidding on. A minimum bid of $10 is the very lovingly-suggested starting price.
Bids left in the comments section will not be reviewed.
This will function as a silent auction. Throughout the day, as time permits, I will post an update with the highest bids per item. If you see that your bid has been outbid, email me a higher bid or suffer your loss!
Any tied bids at the close of auction/bake sale will be determined via names drawn out of a hat.
I will notify each winner, and post the winning bids on my site.
If you are a winner, you have 24 hours to donate your specified bid amount to Beth’s Donation Page. If in that time frame the donation is not made, the next highest bidder will be contacted or the item will go back up for bid.
Be sure to indicate what you have won in the bake sale in the comments section.
Once the donation goes through I will provide the winner’s address to each donor/baker, and it will be their kind responsibility to send the winnings to you.
Each day over the week all of the baked goods still up for sale will be reposted in auction format until Friday, April 24th when the auction/bake sale ends.
Due to limitations on postage costs, we have to limit this auction/bake sale to U.S. residents.
Please remember that all proceeds from this bake sale go directly to Beth’s Jimmy Fund Walk Team for the Boston Marathon’s Jimmy Fund Walk.
