The President is Giving the State of the Union Address Tonight

Newsflash, in case y’all weren’t paying attention.  ;)

I almost didn’t post my Breks pictures out of shame for eating the same thing AGAIN.

BUT.

A lot of food bloggers eat the same oatmeal every morning and post those pictures, so I figured y’all can suffer another day of my eggwhites, lol.

  • eggy whites
  • peppers
  • onions
  • hot sauce
  • LC cheese wedge
  • english muffin – whole wheat

Yeh.  I know.  The same lobster mug.  Look.  I’m a tired woman in the mornings.  I’m lucky I even take pictures let alone remember to mix it up for your viewing pleasure.

Hm.  It seems I have a lot of attitude today.

Wonder what that’s about?

Anyone STOKED for the President’s State of the Union address tonight?  I am.  I was a huge Obama supporter and campaigned and stuff for him.  I still support him.

What I DESPISE is our Congress, for the most part.  I wish we could turn it upside down, shake out all the riff raff and old useless politicians, and start fresh.  And if they don’t get off their ass and pass some legislation BESIDES this healthcare debacle, I’m going to seriously reevaluate my political leanings and future support of candidates.

Last night I did a solid 30 at the gym…elliptical Level 11 (random intervals) while reading my book.  Makes the time FLY.

Dinner

Question.  What goes best with a bowl of split pea soup?

PEAS of course!

Hubby gave me the stank eye while I was filling our bowls.

  • split pea soup + egg noodles + 1 spicy black bean burger
  • bowl of steamed peas
  • toasted 8 grain bread
  • water to drink

This was good, although the pea soup came from a little packet.  I think I coulda made a bit better one myself.  Hubz downed it tho, so I consider it a success.  I really am blessed to have a husband who puts up with my eating lifestyle and actually ENJOYS most of what we eat.

♥♥

Hey.

What’s this?

A breakfast that isn’t eggwhites?

*faint*

Yesterday I was so stoked to prep a breakfast that wasn’t eggwhite-based for y’all.  And I forgot to post it.

Yeh.  Good one, dumbass.

Anyway, have a look.

My Car Almost Got Blown Off the Road

Hi.

Jesus the weather is insane today!  It’s like 60+ degrees, pouring rain, and windy as all get out.  A wind gust nearly shoved my car off a 6-lane highway this morn.

Hey WIND.  I have to drive my very Light and Fuel Efficient car RIGHT next to one of the Nation’s largest rivers every.single.day on my commute to work.  I’d APPRECIATE it if you wouldn’t shove my car INTO the River.

Youstupidfucker.

Kthxbye.

Ok Erin.  I know that you think the lobster tin mug is supa cute and all.  But surely your readers are beyond bored of seeing it every morning.  Oh, and, they GET that you eat eggwhites all.the.time.  Maybe think about mixing it up a little, eh?

Yesterday we got back from our Philly road trip just in time for a full day of playoff games and Sunday night pizza.

P1240172

  • mushroom pizza from a thankgodwefoundit decent PA pizza place
  • tossed spinach salad
  • diet root beer

Congrats to the Colts and Saints.  Twill be a decent Super Bowl, I’m thinking.

I spent Saturday-Sunday with my sista at her spot in Philly.  She and her hubby have the city’s BEST apartment for the price, location, and square footage.  Nearly 1300 ft2!  2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms!  In a city!  For a reasonable price!  I love it (I also used to live here, and hence will ALWAYS love it!).

A few snaps of her place…

Saturday we spent catching up on Life and we also took a nice powerwalk around an urban stormwater wetland complex not too far from her apartment.  We didn’t even see any homeless dudes or crazies or crackheads, which was nice.

And we didn’t see Handbags, her neighborhood crackhead who wears chemistry lab goggles and carries anywhere from 1 to 5 ladies handbags.  We usually spot him shuffling down her street or sitting on a bench outside her building, adorned in handbags (sometimes he wears them around his neck), talking to himself or yelling at traffic.

I love him.

I had a fab weekend with my best friend.  :D

Ciao peeps.

As I was chewing Breks, I read this article in our local paper, something about “saving our bacon.”  So naturally, anything bacon makes Erin swoon.

DSC_0784

Well…this article…not so much.  It’s an Associated Press article about a Dutch lab that is experimenting with using pig stem cells to grow pork in a petri dish culture.

Here’s the AP article link.

DSC_0785

Call it pork in a petri dish - a technique to turn pig stem cells into strips of meat that scientists say could one day offer a green alternative to raising livestock, help alleviate world hunger, and save some pigs their bacon.

Dutch scientists have been growing pork in the laboratory since 2006, and while they admit they haven’t gotten the texture quite right or even tasted the engineered meat, they say the technology promises to have widespread implications for our food supply.

“If we took the stem cells from one pig and multiplied it by a factor of a million, we would need one million fewer pigs to get the same amount of meat,” said Mark Post, a biologist at Maastricht University involved in the In-vitro Meat Consortium, a network of publicly funded Dutch research institutions that is carrying out the experiments.

Post describes the texture of the meat as sort of like scallop, firm but a little squishy and moist. That’s because the lab meat has less protein content than conventional meat.

~~~~****~~~~****~~~~****~~~~****~~~~****
At this juncture, I had to stop eating.
*barf*
While I appreciate the notion of farming lower numbers of pigs and the ideal of a smaller carbon footprint resulting from this meat production technique, there is a giant part of me that is fundamentally scared of MEAT GROWN in a LABORATORY.
Thoughts????
Dinner last night took place before my gym time.  It was good!
Gym = 30 minutes on the elliptical while I talked on the phone with one of my friends.  A girl’s gotta multi-task, ya know.
I’m off to Philly for the weekend.  Should be FUN!
Two Pounds
Guess who’s scale checked in at 2lbs lighter this morning?!
*two thumbs*
THIS GIRL!
I am, technically, overweight for my height.  I discovered the bitter truth of this at the Dr. office on Monday.  2009 was way too full of wine, beer, and snacks, I guess.  So my Dr. has me on a weight loss track to drop some lbs and get my blood pressure back down to healthy-Erin range.
I’ve buckled down, and am committed like I haven’t been for years!
Step 1 - Cut out alcohol except for special social occasions
Step 2 - Go back to basics.  Plate half full of veggies.  Less meat.  More fiber.  More whole grains.
Step 3 - Serious commitment to daily exercise…just 30 minutes…but I MUST do it!
Swenyway.  That’s the name of that tune.
Hey, today is my BIL’s birthday, so everyone with Andy a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Breks this lovely morn!  English muffin sandwich with a side of puppy dog.
