I’m here.  Currently fighting the flu though. 

My life has dictated that I cut back on blogging for a bit.  I simply don’t have time, lol!  Work is really really busy.  Home is busy.  I’m house hunting (wee!).  And I’ve got a slew of family birthdays coming up in March that I’m trying to plan for.  Never fear, all is well.  I’m just swamped.

But there’s always time for coffee, right!

Green Mountain Coffee sent me a sample of their Fair Trade, Organic Rain Forest Blend coffee to sample once I contacted them in an effort to promote their ethical stance to coffee production.

Lastly, I wanted to mention that I met up with Lauren last Monday for coffee, and she is as sweet in person as she is on her blog!  I can’t wait to get together with her again.  And speaking of sweet, look at the goodies she brought me as a “welcome to PA” gift!

We are buried in snow here in PA, and guess what…we’ve got another storm coming!  Predictions forecast anywhere from 8-18 inches to be added to the 2 feet we currently have piled up in the midstate.

I’m ready to bundle in and watch the flakes fall.  I’ll likely work from home tomorrow in an effort to keep my fuel efficient, but-not-so-great-in-the-snow Civic from clogging up the snowy roads…let the plows do their thang.

Looks like someone’s been puzzling….

Over the weekend, Hubby roasted a local, organic, free range turkey.  We have SO much meat.  This birdie was a biggun and we are thanking him profusely for being so healthy and full of meat. 

Yesterday Lunch I made curry turkey salad with canola mayo, dried apple, sunflower seeds, over a bed of lettuce for lunch.  Terrif!

Ethical Eating Spotlight – Those Pesky Chicken Commercials

Has anyone seen those commercials of late that advertise a certain major agri-business chicken products as completely natural and hormone free? 

Well guess what kids. 

ALL chicken is hormone free.  It’s mandated as such by the Food and Drug Administration.  So the fact that BIG Chicken agri-business is green-washing its chicken, kinda sickens me. 

And keep in mind that typical chicken feed includes up to FOUR antibiotics. 

A question.  Why would a healthy chicken need antibiotics?  What *exactly* is wrong with this notion?

And what about that “All Natural” label?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture only requires that meat labeled as “natural” should not contain any artificial flavor or flavoring, coloring ingredient, or chemical preservative . . . and the product and its ingredients should not be more than minimally processed.

It means nothing in terms of Ethical Eating, humane standards for livestock, or the food products included in their diet.  Just some items to keep in mind when reading your meat labels.

Over the weekend I had marvey eats!

• toasty whole grain bread
• southwestern egg whites with peppers
• melty cheese
• banana
• coffee
• OJ

Eaten while reading the Sunday paper.

Then I cubed the rest of that whole grain bread loaf and made croutons!

And popped a batch of these biddies in the oven.  I’m a total sucker for bready carbs.

Sunday night we feasted on beer and appetizers while watching the Saints beat the Colts.  What a good SB!

Saturday Breks was PB + Banana Waffles!!!!

With a side of Prez Obama.

Lunch was a veggie burger, carrots, pita chips with a side of a gigantic snow storm blanketing our state.

We had friends over Saturday night for a veggie lasagna dinner and a game of Pinochle.  It was fun!

Hillycaterpillarbean.  There’s a gal that knows how to snuggle in for a storm!

I’m tired of my regular style and got my stylist to shag it up and give me some bangs.  LOVE it.  I was so worried I’d have trouble finding a good stylist in my new city.  But my girl Michaela rocks it out and is the best stylist I’ve had since living in Philly.

Anyway.  Enough self-love.

I got new sneaks, did I tell you guys?  I got some bday $$ last month and used it to get some much-needed new sneakers.  My last pair I’d had since 2006.  No lie.

I’m an under-pronator and these shoes are super for that.  Plus.  Adidas is my boo.  Forever.

Yes. 

I am aware that I am a FREAK about how good these shoes look after 4 years.  But I don’t do trail running and I avoid puddles when running outdoors.  The heels were totally compacted and offering me limited support for my busted out ankle that I still haven’t seen a doctor about (since I hurt it in June).

So…

There’s no food pics today, I just realized.
