And the Rockets Red Glare…

The fantastical fireworks on Bradley Beach, NJ.  We sat on the beach and had prime time views.  I think I squealed each and every time new fireworks went off!

We went down the shore to a party with some friends (who conveniently live 3 blocks from the beach!) and watched the fireworks.

Had this dude which was kinda tasty.

Our host gal is a veggie, so I lucked out with a spicy black bean burger for Din!

This dude accompanied the meal.

Look at this festive red, white & blue dessert some of the girls made for everyone!

There was pound cake under all that cream and berries, but I ignored it and stuck with the loveliness on top.

The rest of the night I drank agua.

For lunch, we spent some QT at the cinema!

TRANSFORMERS!

I totally dig boy action movies like this.  Totally.  Sign me up for trucks that morph into alien machines any day…I’m game!!

Scopin the snacks…

Lunch!

Not the most balanced meal, but I have a hard time watching movies w/o movie theatre poppy corn.  The movie was pretty lame, plot wise.  But if you set that aside, there is marvelous eye candy of both male and female persuasion, and the machines are kickass.

Got in a little sun action on our balcony with Breks, a book, and some coffee.  Does it get any better?

Ok, I gotta jet.  I’m meeting my sista’s bridesmaids for a brunch in New Hope to chat shower planning fun!  If you care to share, what’s been the most fun thing you’ve ever done at a wedding shower?

Hello from Portland, ME

Greetings from the Pine Tree State!

We just got back from Flatbread Company for Din where we enjoyed Fabulous flatbreads that were all organic + local.

  • organic baby greens salad w/homemade berry vinagrette
  • pineapple + prosciutto + blue cheese flatbread (mine)
  • local hormone-free fennel sausage + carmelized onions + mushrooms flatbread (Hubz)

His was good, mine was Better!  Mine was very unique and delish.  The salad was great too.  I had 2 beers, a Smuttynose Shoal Pale Ale and a Long Trail IPA.

Before Din, I exercised in the hotel gym for a while.  Got in 2 miles on the treadmill and felts heaps better afta.  FYI.  I ADORE how people speak here.

I gonna paaahk the caaaaah in the laht up in Baaaaah Haaaabaa.

LOVES it!

Our hotel in Portland is mega nice, which is a mega nice change from yesterday’s krap hole.  Yay!  We’re right on the water and walking distance to all the cool stuff in Old Port.

Anyone know Portland really well?  I have the afternoon to myself tomorrow, and am looking for suggestions for what to do/see.  Hubz has to work at his company’s Portland office, so I’ve got some solo time!  Then we’re heading up the road to Baaahhhh Haaahhhbor for 3 nights/4 days.  Woot!

Lunch was a veggie burger + way too many sweet tater fries at the Sunday River Brewery in Bethel, ME.  Great beers here too!

We spent late morning ascending Mt. Washington, NH.  It’s in the Presidential Range (part of the Appalachains), and there’s an 8-mile (scary) car route that goes to the summit.  We had hoped to hike the last part up, but there is No Where to pull off and hike on up.  It’s simply too steep.  And Hi.  It was nearly 70 degrees at the base of the Mtn and a balmy 34 at the summit.  Picture Erin freezing her assnats off.

Apparently my dog is a natural rock climber.  She LOVED it up there.

Pretty waterfall on the northern end of the Wildcat River this morning.

Breks this morning was a scallion + tomato + cheese omelette.  I ate half + 2 pieces of the whole wheat toast.  Plus loads of coffee.

Consider your blog friend Erin de-cat-peed-grossed-out and much calmer having moved on to way fancier digs here in the city.  And the place up in Bar Harbor is meant to be top notch, so here’s hoping.

Hope y’all have great TGIFridays.

Er

Lots of Brew Pubs

Methinks our anniversary vacation coming up is going to be rife with stops at New England Brew Pubs!  And I cannot wait!

Hubz and I spent all of late morning planning our stops along our driving tour of New England.

dsc_1133-3

We found small farms that make local cheese and maple syrup in VT and NH and have plans to stop and see a few.  But most importantly, we found eleven billionty brew pubs to sample!!  They.Are.Everywhere up there.  It’s going to be so fun.

The reason we spent LATE morning planning our trip is b/c Erin slept in til, oh, 10am.  Whhhaaaattt?  I’ll just thank Ambien and be on my way.  It was amazing.  I now think getting up early on weekends is over-rated.  I seriously haven’t slept in that late since the last time I had the flu.  Finally Hubz came in and asked if I was thinking I’d get up at any point today, lol.  It felt great!

I made  the loveliest of quick Breks since it was getting so late.

  • whole wheat muffin + Nutella + banana
  • peaches + red raspberries + blackberries
  • COFFEE xs 2

Oh Nutella….how I love thee.

Last night, after Din, Hubz and I watched Changeling with Angelina Jolie and John Malkovich.  A very dark dark film.  Worth watching if you have 2hrs + though.  I had a beer and baked Kettle chips for a snack (no pic).  And in being totally honest, 1 of Mallorys butterscotch nut butter cups (the BEST flava).

Din was tandori chicken (homemade) using Penzey’s tandori spice + ff Fage yogurt.  It was good.  Not great though.  I gotta figure out a way to make this taste like REAL tandori.

dsc_11442

dsc_11452

  • homemade tandori chicken + lentils
  • half a piece of ww Naan
  • steamed broccoli
  • Smuttynose beer

Pre-Din I had a Smuttynose IPA, which is 1 of my absolute favs.  I think Matt at Brew and Bake would probably really like this beer, given his review of other beers!

And a little after-work yoga to unwind and stretch out some sore running muscles.  This totally did the trick.  I felt heaps better after.

Hillary helped with some Lazy Dogs.

Hubz helped by doing some Lazy Man Reading.

K, I gotta eat lunch and head out to pick up some items for our dinner tonight.  Having friends over for Din to sample one of my favorite recipes.  Should be fun!
