Not So Ethical
Hi kids.
I’m off work today because it’s election day here in NJ (and most other states too). Of course I will be voting, but more importantly, I get a whole day to take care of all that chit that needs done when planning a move.
- call Direct TV
- call media company
- call electric company
- go to the doctor
- vote
- go to the pharmacy
- pack boxes
*phew*
Already tired. Not really. I slept GREAT last night and have loads of energy to tackle this list.
I just finished up a lighter-than-normal lunch. I have realized, of late, that I need to lose a little weight. I have so many clothes in my closet that are a wee bit too tight. And by wee bit, I mean can’t-get-them-over-my-hips-tight.
Too much summer time drinking and parties I guess. :( So I’m back to using Sparkpeople to track my meals, as diligently as I can. I hope to stick with it and not burn out, like times before. Wish me luck.
Lunch!
- spinach salad
- carrot
- maters
- sprinkled goat cheese
- sprinkled chopped pecans
- drizzled with lite raspberry walnut dressing
- toasted slice of whole wheat ciabatta with TJs pumpkin butter
- water to drink
This meal clocks in at less than 200 caloires, if you can believe that! Please refer to the crossed out items on my list above to see what I did between Breks and Lunch.
Breks!
- toasted 2 think slices of whole wheat ciabatta
- 1 slightly over cooked poached egg (organic), sprinkled with red pepper flakes
- half a banana with Artisana pecan butter
- coffee
This meal clocks in at around 270 calories plus a few extra for the creamer in my coffee. I don’t plan to report nutritionals on each meal, but it is good for me to do right now, as I kick-start this new dedication to a smidge of a weight loss program.
Regarding the post name…
Dinner last night was amazeballs. But it wasn’t so ethical. I want to point this out because I don’t want y’all thinking I strive to be a perfect ethical eater. My goal in my ethical eating lifestyle is to simply do my best. Be aware of my choices regarding food sources, and make conscious decisions about them. So when I stopped at Shop Rite last night to pick up this garlic shrimp at their shrimp bar, I was fully aware of the fact that these shrimp aren’t coming from sustainable fisheries. It makes me sad. And I probably shouldn’t have bought them. But at least I’m aware. And please know that I have written to Shop Rite in encouragement of providing shoppers with sustainable fisheries food options!
Anyway, enough of all that.
- homemade vodka sauce liberally sprinkled with red pepper flakes
- garlic shrimp
- sautéed mushrooms
- steamed peas
- garlic whole wheat ciabatta toast
- spinach salad
- small pour of Robert Mondavi sauvignon blanc
After fully enjoying every morsel of this fabulous meal, I decided it was time to recommit to a smidge healthier eating platform. My waistline will be thanking me.
OK. I have to jet to the doctor now, and then VOTE!
Ciao.

The New Season
Hi peeps.
I’m here.
The hiatus was good for me. I’m refreshed and focused more on life and where I want it to go and what I want from it.
So.
I’m going to make a few adjustments to IWITW. Just a few things. I plan to continue my focus on Ethical Eating and promoting those companies and products that fit in my world view of an ethical eating lifestyle.
I am not going to journal every meal from here on out.
I am a full time professional.
I am a wife.
I am a dog-momma.
I am a MOH in my only sister’s wedding next month.
I am a BM in my BFF’s wedding next spring.
I have family I need to spend more time with and friends I need to pay more attention to.
And I need more time for me. Honestly, that means that I would rather read y’all’s food blogs than spend 30 minutes typing out my daily food journal each day.
I plan to continue at MY pace. This space if for me, my blog, my thoughts, my perspectives. This blog is not my career nor is it my life. It is my hobby and source of creative outlet. I’ve simply fallen trap to the blog obsession and pressure (self-inflicted) to post each meal, each day. And I.Burned.Out.
Consider this post the New Season of I Walk In This World.
Still Food.
Healthy Eats.
Lots of snark.
I hope y’all are cool with that. And if not, eh….you’ll adjust.
xoxo

Yeah, That’s Not Jerk…
Last night we had a dinner fail.
Hubz and I drove down to Cherry Hill, NJ to meet my sister for her final gown fitting (until the 1 right before the wedding)!! Hubz walked the mall while sis and I did wedding gown stuff. She looked beyond gorg, fyi!
Afta, we went to Bahama Breeze for dinner. Hubz and I decided to split an appetizer and an entree. Smart choice! And I started things out with a simple glass of Mondavi Sauv Blanc.
We got the red pepper baked goat cheese appetizer…
Which we split 3 ways. Good, but I am a goat cheese purist I think. I prefer it cold (not baked) and not full of junk. Just the cheese please.
I still ate this xs 4.
Cute decor.
For Din, we ordered the jerk mahi mahi with mashed sweet taters and plantains. We split this exactly in half.
Um. Painting a layer of Hunts BBQ sauce onto a sadly cooked piece of fish does NOT jerk mahi mahi make. I was really unhappy with it. Thankfully the mashed sweet taters and plantains were good. But for $18, I was wrought with disappointment.
But YAY for us for choosing a fish on the Good Alternatives List from the Seafood Watch pocket card!
The other disappointment was that I ordered a 2nd glass of vino for dessert. I almost NEVER order dessert, and instead often choose to have a second glass of wine after dinner. That’s the path I chose yesterday, but another Bahama Breeze Fail. They never brought it. And of course the bill came and we were charged for it. So I had to motion the waitress over to discuss with her…
No worries blog friends, I shall make up for my lack of wine with tonight’s Din!
I only worked a half day in order to accommodate the plethora of driving that needed to be done, up and down the middle section of NJ. To keep me hopped on caffeine, I stopped for a mid-day nonfat espresso frap with a side of bling.
Lunch was light b/c I knew we’d be going out to dinner.
- tossed salad + rolled up slice of ham
- watermelon
- another rolled up slice of ham with slice of chz inside
- water to drink
And b/c y’all know I’m a Wild Woman, here’s another wild and crazy snap of Breks!
- passionfruit + pineapple + mango + banana
- almond milk
- ice
- low fat yogurt
This was a good smoothie using the diff fruits! And nothing beats almond milk. I’m a total convert.
Happy Friday friends!
A Bright Day
Wednesday eats paled in comparison to the happiness I was feeling. It was just a good day. I’ve mentioned before that IWITW is dealing with some personal stuff. Well. Wednesday was a great day. Just sunshine-y great. So…yay.
Din!
Kinda a repeat of yesterday…
- creamy salsa bison + beans + peppers + onion + mushies + HOT sauce
- brown rice
- tossed spinach salad with cuke, carrot, maters, croutons, pecans in homemade garlic dijon
- glass of cab sav
This was mucho delicioso! We ate it and watched a DVR’d epi of Law and Order CI. I really like the addition of Jeff Goldblum to this show!
Exercse. I kickedass yesterday kids. I did the easiest 30minute run ever. I felt like I coulda kept going. That’s never happened to me before! Followed it up with 150+ different ab crunches.
Work is the same…busy busy trying to get a zillion documents reviewed before the end of the month. At least it’s all eco-related and stuff this treehugger likes.
Lunch!
- leftover broccoli in garlic sauce mixed with quinoa
- watermelon
- 1 piece of Dove dark chocolate
- a beautifully ripe nectarine eaten 2 hours later.
For you Chinese food fans…try subbing quinoa for rice next time you get take-out. Obvi make the quinoa at home (microwave…holla). But it fills the same space and is SO much healthier than white rice.
And since my Breks pics get monotonous, I really shook things up yesterday with some snaps of the blender BEFORE the smoothie was poured into the cup. I am a wild woman.
Who needs some Hillary-bean lovin??
Aw…she ♥s you guys.
