Healthy eats, often with a side of snark

Oops

It seems the sun and heat have sapped my brain, cuz I totally forgot to take pictures of my kickass breakfast today.  It was so kickass that I didn’t need to eat lunch!  I did manage to remember to photo dinner, so that’s all I got today.

Din was a melding of DH’s cooking and my buzzing around the kitchen.

At the table…

  • Bear Claw Salad = Tossed spinach/green leaf spinach, carrot, maters, cukes, sprouts with low fat Ceasar dressing
  • Whole grain Italian loaf
  • Veggie spiral pasta topped with my dad’s homemade organic sauce (to which we added ground bison)

This was a perfectly perfect dinner.  Well.  I guess I don’t really like Caesar dressing, so that kinda sucked.  But we needed to use it up so I went with it.  Oh, and that’s the hubz’ plate, not mine.  Mine was half that size.  Hm.  Why did I photo the hubz’ plate?!

Right before dinner prep, I zipped to the gym for 40 mins.  20 mins Level 8 on the elliptical plus a variety of arm weights/curls and crunches (130).

This afternoon, there was no lunch, so the hubz and I ran to some big box stores (Home Depot) for flowers for our balcony pots & planters, and Old Navy for some light cotton summer dresses (me, not hubz).  I spent too much $.  Period.  Don’t tell my husband!

;)

Breks this morning was had at the local (kickass) diner and involved meeting with some political folks.  I’ll leave it at that.  But my breakfast was so rockin.  And I totally forgot my camera.  Lemme recreate it for you.  Be sure to have a napkin with which you can soak up your drool.

  • Banana & almond french toast (was unbelievably good)
  • side dish of 2 fried eggWHITES (forget the yolk you see above)
  • COFFEE

It was so good.  I ate 2 of the 3 slices of french toast and ALL the banana.  I ate 1/3 of the fried eggwhites and brought home the rest.  And drank copious amounts of coffee.  As usual.  This filled me up so much that there was no need for lunch.

Around 4pm I got a little hungry and ate a handful of dried fruit (apricot, cherries, papaya) and raw pecans.  This held me over perfectly.

Ok.  Time for a movie.  I’ll be sure to snap pics of any movie-adajacent snack I might have.

Weekend recap

Morning kids.

Busy day for me, work-wise, and prepping for tomorrow’s Auction and Bake Sale (!).

Breks today was awesome all because of 2 words…Unsweetened Coconut!!

In the orange bowl…

  • a hefty handful of Nature’s Path Maple Pecan Crunch
  • dried unsweetend blueberries
  • 3 chopped pecans
  • spoonful of unsweetened coconut

Look, I didn’t even need a chocolate PB spoond today.  The unsweetened coconut tastes like what coconut should taste like.  It’s still sweet(ish), but REAL tasting.  A beautiful addition to my amazing bowl of cereal.

I had a very long political meeting yesterday, which I’m not ready to go into on my blog yet.  But I will give mayjah props to my husband for organizing the FIRST State-wide meeting of grassroots political groups here in NJ since we all got President Obama elected.  We’ve created a grassroots group, CHANGE, if you’re interested to see what part of my other life is about.

Breks yesterday was a big one b/c I wanted to fuel up the hubz for his/our big meeting.

At the table…

  • Low fat blueberry pancakes with REAL maple syrup
  • Morningstar Farms veggie sausage patty
  • grapefruit with a sprinkle of raw sugar
  • COFFEE

I don’t have any pics of food the rest of the day b/c we were too busy politicking.  When I’m involved with that part of my life, I am probably going to have to push the pause button on my blog.  Only for a few hours or so, but still.  Didn’t want anyone to think I’d gone MIA.

I also don’t have pics of Din from Saturday night b/c I was too pissed off to photo.  We tried the Chinese place in our new town.  I ordered spicy tofu, listed on the menu in the Vegetables section (meant to be Vegetarian).  Yeah, the sauce it came in was FILLED with bits of pork.

*gag*

It went right in the garbage and I grumbled and acted pissy for a good 10minutes.  Heated up a leftover black bean burger, mashed it on some toast, and had WAY too many beers on the side.

:D

Be back later to update about the Auction and Bake Sale!

Today in Congress

Good morning kids.

For those of you interested in the nity gritty of what happens in Congress, day-to-day, check out the Congress Matters blog for a snapshot of today’s proceedings.

Example…

The Senate convenes at 9:30am
Morning Business for up to 1 hour, with senators permitted to speak for up to 10 minutes each. The Majority will control the first 30 minutes and the Republicans will control the second 30 minutes. Following morning business, the Senate will resume consideration of HR1388, the national service legislation.

Breakfast this morning was super & simple, per my usual approach to meals.

In the morning light…

  • 1/2 cup Kashi Go Lean, 1/4 cup Barbara’s PB Puffins, 1/4 Kashi cinnamon squares, half a nanner, skim milk, spoonful of thebeststuffonearth (dark choco pb)
  • coffee

Be back later to update on the rest of the day’s sure-to-be-thrilling happenings.

In need of calm

Good morning all.

The sun is out and I slept a solid 7+ hours.  Today shall be good!  Again, I rushed around like a crazy woman this morning, trying to get everything done in not enough time.

  • snuggle with doggy
  • walk doggy
  • make coffee
  • make the bed
  • make healthy breakfast
  • photograph breakfast
  • shower, get ready
  • pen the dog
  • turn on iTunes for the dog to listen to while I’m at work (not kidding)
  • run out the door

Breakfast was good and the first time I’ve tried this!

At the table…

  • Eggwhite with peppers, onions, mushrooms with low fat cheddar on a whole wheat mini bagel

I never just cook with eggwhites b/c I feel guilty not using the yolk.  But in an affort to clean up my eating this week, I decided to ditch the yolk & the guilt.  This was good and very clean tasting.  It could have used some red pepper or hot sauce though.  To me, the more flavor the better!

I was too busy with a political meeting last night to post yesterday’s afternoon & evening eats.  I attended the launch event for my County’s Young Democrats organization.  It was well attended with a mix of young (40 and under) Democrats and elected officials.  I didn’t get home til after 8pm, so I just reheated some of this yumminess!

On the white dinnerware…

  • Steamed broccoli with sea salt and drizzle of evoo
  • Toasted whole grain brain bread (ew, I typed brain!) with buttah
  • Trader Joes creamy vegetable soup seasoned with curry powder, and with chicken, white beans, carrots, green beans, onions, & spinach added in (so good!)

Because I haven’t been sleeping well, I crashed for 30mins on the couch when I got home from work.  I snuggled with the doggy, but shhh…don’t tell the husband.  Hillary’s not allowed on the couch.  ;)

Afternoon snack

On Mr. Stripey…

  • Vanilla Chobani greek yogurt in my pretty new blue bowl

Question.  How crazy is your morning compared to mine?  I need to cut some things out, or get up earlier (boo) to have a calmer start to the day!
