Yeah, That’s Not Jerk…
Last night we had a dinner fail.
Hubz and I drove down to Cherry Hill, NJ to meet my sister for her final gown fitting (until the 1 right before the wedding)!! Hubz walked the mall while sis and I did wedding gown stuff. She looked beyond gorg, fyi!
Afta, we went to Bahama Breeze for dinner. Hubz and I decided to split an appetizer and an entree. Smart choice! And I started things out with a simple glass of Mondavi Sauv Blanc.
We got the red pepper baked goat cheese appetizer…
Which we split 3 ways. Good, but I am a goat cheese purist I think. I prefer it cold (not baked) and not full of junk. Just the cheese please.
I still ate this xs 4.
Cute decor.
For Din, we ordered the jerk mahi mahi with mashed sweet taters and plantains. We split this exactly in half.
Um. Painting a layer of Hunts BBQ sauce onto a sadly cooked piece of fish does NOT jerk mahi mahi make. I was really unhappy with it. Thankfully the mashed sweet taters and plantains were good. But for $18, I was wrought with disappointment.
But YAY for us for choosing a fish on the Good Alternatives List from the Seafood Watch pocket card!
The other disappointment was that I ordered a 2nd glass of vino for dessert. I almost NEVER order dessert, and instead often choose to have a second glass of wine after dinner. That’s the path I chose yesterday, but another Bahama Breeze Fail. They never brought it. And of course the bill came and we were charged for it. So I had to motion the waitress over to discuss with her…
No worries blog friends, I shall make up for my lack of wine with tonight’s Din!
I only worked a half day in order to accommodate the plethora of driving that needed to be done, up and down the middle section of NJ. To keep me hopped on caffeine, I stopped for a mid-day nonfat espresso frap with a side of bling.
Lunch was light b/c I knew we’d be going out to dinner.
- tossed salad + rolled up slice of ham
- watermelon
- another rolled up slice of ham with slice of chz inside
- water to drink
And b/c y’all know I’m a Wild Woman, here’s another wild and crazy snap of Breks!
- passionfruit + pineapple + mango + banana
- almond milk
- ice
- low fat yogurt
This was a good smoothie using the diff fruits! And nothing beats almond milk. I’m a total convert.
Happy Friday friends!
Fresh Start…Workin It Out
Hi IWITW friends.
First. I want to send ***hugs*** to those of you who took the time to write such lovely and encouraging words yesterday.
Well. Yesterday was a fresh start with my eating and I’m pretty happy with how I did. Let’s have a look.
Din! We made a traditional and easy plate of linguine with sauce. And of course, a salad on the side. For sauce, we are lucky to have both my dad and Hubz’ mom who make (and share with us) excellent marinara sauce! Last night we opened a jar of Hubz’ mom’s sauce, mixed in some ground bison, and generously served over whole wheat linguine, which, by the way, is my favorite pasta noodle.
What’s your favorite pasta noodle?
The salad was your standard garden mix topped with a homemade vinaigrette of vinegar, olive oil, cayenne pepper, mustard, garlic, and brown sugar (great!).
Can anyone tell which plate + salad is mine, and which is Hubz’???
We watched a few epis of West Wing with dinner. Such the best show evah.
For exercise, I planned to do a 30 minute run at the gym, but quickly realized the AC was off and being that it was about a 100F in there, I dropped it back to a 20 minute run + 10 minutes of powerwalking. Then I did a set of ab work and a set of leg weights with College Tournament of Champions Jeopardy! on in the background.
Worked hard.
Lunch! I had some leftover bagels from Sunday’s bagel breakfast, so I sliced this jalapeno bagel in half and loaded it up with lettuce and tomato and organic roast beef + American cheese. Wow was this a delicious deviation from my normal sams on whole wheat bread! A bowl of perfect strawberries on the side. And some questionable celery with smashed Artisana (free sample) goji coconut butter.
Worked harder.
Breks was back to IWITW summertime basics. A fruity smoothie.
- mango
- strawberries
- Stonyfield
low fat yogurt
- whole
- ice
- almond milk
Ok peeps. I’ve got a full day of hard work ahead of me. Keep your chins up everyone!
I Puffy Heart Leftovers
Yesterday’s eats were chock full of leftovers, and I couldn’t have been happier about it!
- It helps clean out the fridge (which is good for my anal Hubz who’s a bit of a nazi about fridge order)
- It’s an easy meal
- Lots of foods often taste better the next day!
Din last night was my leftover Chinese food, consisting of broccoli in garlic sauce over quinoa (my addition) instead of rice. And Hubz and I split those last 2 steamed vegetable dumplings. To drink I had a glass (or 2) of the Four Sisters suav blanc from the other night. I think this meal was as good, or better than the night we ordered it!
To keep my and soul in shape, I did a 20 minute run on the treadmill followed by a circuit set of leg weights and ab work. Only a 35 minute workout front to back.
Work is working me out and not in a good way. The end.
Lunch was another set of yumtastic leftovers.
- leftover korma curry with lentils, sweet potato, zukes, green beans, peppers, and a little bit of chicken
- a side of doughy (love) farmers market bread
- a beautifully large dish of
Did I mention that work is ?
Whatevs.
Breks was a smoothie amongst veg.
- mango
- banana
- almond milk + ice
- strawberry yogurt ala Stonyfield
And lastly, there’s a fun giveaway happening over at Running Around Normal if you want to try new Larabars!
Question. Do you eat leftovers? What’s your favorite kind?
Just For Me
Happy Sunday evening blog peeps.
I’m trying to wrap up this evening and realized I hadn’t posted Saturday blog life schtuff.
If you recall, I had the day to myself cuz Hubz was out of town. I did a lot of blog reading and commenting, which was a fun indulgence for me. If I missed your blog, post a comment on this post so I can find you in blog world!
I considered watching a movie, and decided to fully indulge in 5 epis of SATC (Sex and the City) DVDs instead since Hubz hates it and I had the house to myself.
Speaking of indulging…
I combined some of my favorite things in the culinary world, for dinner Saturday.
Pizza.
Goat cheese.
Pesto.
HoppyAss India Pale Ale.
!Voila!
Whole wheat Boboli crust topped with pesto + goat cheese + NJ farmers market tomato
With a lovely spinach side salad and a Smuttynose IPA (as y’all know, one of my favs). In the spirit oh honesty, I had 2 more of those naughty fellas thru the evening. And a little advil before bed never hurt anyone. Just sayin.
The full body shot.
During the afternoon, I did…
- a trip to Michaels to get prize gifts for guests that play the “game” at my sister’s wedding shower
- a trip to Target for some snacks for visitors this weekend and next weekend
- pick up dry cleaning
- grocery shopping
When I got home at 4:30pm, I realized I had NOT eaten lunch. Wha???
As I unpacked all my bags from the afternoon shopping, I blended up a strawberry peach smoothie and enjoyed it in my new smoothie cup. It’s fabulous, right?
Jungle feva…
The bldg we live in offers continental bfast 6 days a week, so Saturday a.m. I ran down to the Club Room and grabbed half a bagel and some crumb cake for Hubz. It did the trick of getting him out of bed!
I fried up some eggwhites and peppers and spinach and spooned it onto the bottom half of that bagel. Topped with some chz and HOT sauce and the other half of the bagel. Adorned on the side by a small handful of cheeries (heh!) and COFFEE!
I mean, honestly, does it get any tastier than that?
So, I gotta wrap up the evening and figure out how to get my brain ready for going back to work Monday. What are your Sunday evening tricks for getting back in the groove?
