I think, other than bread, bacon is my favorite food.  I could eat pounds of it.  Sick, but so delicious.

Do you eat bacon?

Din.

Bye!

You Wanna See My Fridge?

I’ve got nothing pithy or wise to share tonight.  We’re dealing with some things over this way, and I am choosing to keep today’s blogging short.  So instead of insight and wit, I shall give you a tour of the IWITW fridge!

But first you must suffer my meals.

Dinner was great, and cheater.  My favorite kind.

DSC_1445 DSC_1446

  • Trader Joes picatta sauce
  • free range organic chicken tenders + white beans + mushrooms
  • served over whole wheat spaghetti
  • side salad made by my HUBZ!

If you like picatta, this is very good.  That being said, it is VERY picatta-y, so beware if you’re only an on-the-fence kinda picatta eater.  I like it, so I was a happy little duck.

Rounded out the meal with a pinch of sweet.  Salt water taffy my sis and future bro-in-law brought back for me from their recent jaunt to OC, MD.

  • corn from the cob
  • hard boiled egg
  • 3 teeny slices of ham (from happy piggies)
  • tossed in homemade honey dijon + camera shy croutons
  • side dish of beautiful cherries

Breks!  The smoothie du jour was a banana, strawberry, blueberry blend, I like to call Pink.

Last night, while bored, I decided to snap pics of the innards of the IWITW fridge.  I didn’t straighten it up or clean junk out.  This is what she looks like in her unadulterated state…

DSC_1432

DSC_1433

  • butter up there in the butter dish
  • eggs and carob doggy treats in the egg dish
  • assorted jams and nut butters hiding in the top tier
  • your usual suspects of mustards, dark chocolate sauce, lemon juice, creamer
  • the third tier is kinda the third wheel…chit gets put here that we don’t much use (lime juice, soy sauce, bbq sauce)
  • bottom tier is salad dressing haven plus some Perrier

Here we have the top shelf.  Let’s list what we can see…

DSC_1434

  • chocolate Silk
  • Organic Valley skim milk
  • cherries
  • my lunch salad in a tupperware
  • assorted beers
  • chunky medium spicy salsa

Middle shelf…

DSC_1435

  • half a banana in a ziploc (for smoothies)
  • overripe Jersey tomato
  • ziploc of white beans
  • in the back there are 2 containers of garlic hummus
  • moving over to the right we’ve got a pile of Stonyfields
  • some MORE salsa tucked in the back
  • that’s a canola mayo container laying on it’s side
  • baking soda
  • lite sour cream
  • yogurt butter
  • a small container of homemade curry dressing that I don’t know what to use it on
  • Meat drawer = American cheese, brick of sharp provolone, goat cheese, happy ham

Bottoms shelf…

DSC_1436

  • BIG container of Stonyfield with blueberries atop it
  • 3 ripe NJ peaches
  • Applegate Farms chicken sausage
  • in the back there is unsweetened applesauce
  • another container of cherries atop a bunch of quinoa I made Sunday
  • that big tupperware is full of veggie lentil Korma curry I made
  • atop that is our leftover crockpot carrot ginger chicken bean stew
  • olives
  • pickles
  • and in the back is our precious container of REAL VT maple syrup

I forgot to photograph the veg drawers.  They’re stuffed with spinach, zukes, carrot, mushroom, and cukes.

So that’s the dog and pony show kids.  Judge away.

Ciao,

Er

Free Bird?

Evenin peeps.

I need to chillax, a bit of a stressful day here at IWITW.  Without further adieu…

Dinner!  Yesterday I sauteed all of these TJs Organic Free Range Chicken tenders, which, you’ll note, were also sustainably farmed and raised without antibiotics.  This is an indicator that the chickens are, in fact, free range.  Antibiotics are administered, preemptively to birds to ward off the horrid diseases they can contract from massive over crowding in wire battery cages in a traditional chicken processing plant.  Free range birds, not subject to overcrowding (and the horrific treatment that goes along with that….crowded birds become mean to each other and I will let you envision the rest), don’t need antibiotics to be healthy.  Also, don’t be fooled by labels that say “raised without hormones, or hormone free.”  The use of hormones in raising chickens has been banned since the 1950s.  But these producers are smart and know that this phrase makes people feel “good” about the chicken they’re buying.  Don’t fall for it!  Just a little bit of Ethical Eating trivia for today.  I’ve created an Ethical Eating page up there at the top, where I’ll be posting my thoughts and snippets of info for y’all.

DSC_1415

About 2 of those tenders went into making my latest crockpot wonder…Cashew Carrot soup with chicken, white beans, wild rice, broccoli, and sweet taters.  Served with a side of locally baked whole wheat bastone with buttah.  Look at this bowl of delish!

Oh, I forgot.  I got my rings back on Saturday!  I had them at the jeweler (for 2 weeks *cry*) to get re-rhodium plated and cleaned and checked for damage.

A little Hilly-Hubz wrestling goin down.  Who says little dogs aren’t tough?

DSC_1424DSC_1426

So, the blog title.  At the store tonight, I found this FreeBird chicken.  You can read the label, like I did, and see what you think.  I need to do some more research about this company before I give them a good ranking from IWITW regarding Ethical Eating.  I am hopeful they’re legit…but I need to check it out.  Will get back to you.  Or, let me know if you know anything about this company!

A little pre-workout snack.  I had a GENerous handful.  At the gym I ran for 30mins on the treadmill.  I was a hawt mess afta, but man, I continue to be supa psyched at how long I’m now able to run!

 DSC_1423

Lunch.  Today was my boss’ birthday, so there was a lovely homemade cake to celebrate.  I couldn’t *not* enjoy with everyone else.  :)  Plus, I’m a sucker for homemade cake.  Store cakes get the heave ho, but homemade puts a smile on my face.  And ya know what, it was REALLY good!

  • ham + American + lettuce on run-of-the-mill whole wheat
  • organic sliced carrot
  • cherries
  • CAKE

I’ll leave you with a pic I snapped of the bag of farmers market goodies I took to my sister in Philly on Saturday.  This bag cost me $4 and contained that yellow squash, 2 Jersey maters, and 4 ears of corn.

 DSC_1419

There are definitely farmers market perks to living in the Garden State, that’s fo sho.

Nite people!

Gonna Make You Sweat

And this, blog friends, is my kind of short cut dinner.

TJs Pav Bhaji…in a box!

DSC_1404

Mixed up with diced chicken (free range), slivered (local) zucchini, and onion.  Served over a teeny smidge of wild rice, a side of farmer’s market corn, and a slice of whole grain bread (baked in NJ).

This ended up being SUPA spicey, which was an unexpected and fabulous surprise!  I LOVE spice!  Since I used cooked chicken, this meal took about 10 mins, front to back, to prepare.  I think it took the longest to toast the bread, lol!

We had Core Power Yoga xs 2 tonight, with a his and hers performance.  Which mat do you think is mine?

Hubz made it thru the first 17 mins and then stopped.  This is some hard shit.  Definitely not beginners yoga.

I was SOAKED.  See!

DSC_1401DSC_1399

Afta work, I swung thru the local farmers’ market and here’s my loot:

  • $1.49 cherries from Washington (from Shop Rite, not the farmers’ market)
  • local white corn
  • local maters
  • local mixed bag of whole grain rolls
  • lemon tarts
  • a granola bar dog treat for Hillary

All for less than $20, including the 5lbs of cherries I bought!

My afternoon snack came via a fabulous box of GNU Flavor & Fiber bars from the kind and generous folks at GNU Foods!

DSC_1356 DSC_1386

I had the chocolate brownie bar (half) and it was very good!  A very pleasant surprise, and this beaut kept me full from 3pm-8pm!!!
